Frequently Asked Questions

What do I bring to my massage?

  • Yourself! It’s best to come in hydrated along with your form of payment and any medical history or medication notes or changes, primarily for the initial assessment.
  • Showering ahead of time is recommended to help aid in relaxation of muscles and decrease potential cross contamination.
  • Payment can be made via card, cash, Venmo, or check made out to Redefine & Reveal Massage Therapy & Bodywork!

What do I wear to my massage?

  • Wear comfortable clothing that can make changing easy and smooth, which will help maximize your time during your session.
  • If you are receiving our signature Redefine & Reveal Massage or one of our KT Taping session, it’s recommended you wear a sports bra and/or shorts to accommodate varying stretches and side lying positions that may be necessary as part of your session treatments.
  • If you have long hair, it’s best to put it up into a ponytail. Don’t worry if you forget, we have hair ties just in case!
  • Remove jewelry prior to the start of your massage to avoid lotions or oils from getting into it but most importantly for your safety.
  • What you wear on the table is entirely up to each individual based on their comfort. Ideally, the client would be undressed to their comfort, often removing under garments such as a bra and/or underwear (optional). Regardless, it’s important to know you will be professionally draped by the linens throughout the entire massage.

  • Note- Sexual advances, gestures, or comments of any kind will not be tolerated. The licensed massage therapist has a right to stop the massage and/or report such behavior at any time.

How do I lay on the massage table?

  • Your licensed massage therapist should remember to instruct you on how to lay on the table, but don’t hesitate to ask or request a preferred starting position, especially if you are  pregnant or claustrophobic.
  • As a rule of thumb, if the face rest is still on you will likely start face down into the face cradle. If the face rest is off, then it’s likely you’ll start face up.
  • Side Lying is an option for those who are pregnant as well as claustrophobic, simply request a side-lying massage, or recommended by your massage therapist to assist in specific techniques. Additional pillows to prop your knees, and support your arms will be provided for optimal comfort.

What happens if I am allergic to an essential oil or scent?

  • This will be important to make note of during your assessment process; however, it’s always best to remind the licensed massage therapist.
  • The use of non-scented hypoallergenic creams/oils can be utilized.

Is it appropriate to talk during the massage?

  • This is entirely up to you! Some clients like to chit chat and others like to zone out completely.
  • For optimal healing, it's encouraged to limit conversations after the first 10-15 minutes to really be in tune with your mind and body and activate your parasympathetic nervous system. This helps the massage therapist from not becoming distracted in conversation and also allows for check-ins on pressure, discomfort, and progress.

What do I listen to?

  • The licensed massage therapist will provide music, ensuring it is calming and soothing in nature. Typically that includes sounds of instruments (piano, acoustic guitar, instrumental cover songs, etc.) or soft nature (animals, rain, etc.) without  lyrics. If you have a particular sound you’d prefer, feel free to request.
  • Please do not bring in your own headphones and avoid phone usage while in your session. This will help reduce interruptions and allow you to be in tune with your healing process as well as check in for pressure, discomfort, and progress.

What happens if I fall asleep during a massage?

  • This is OK and 100% normal, even if you begin to snore! This will likely happen, especially during the Relax and Restore massage as the light to medium strokes and techniques will be intentional in calming the mind and body. There are techniques to help gently wake you up and/or ensure you are aware of the session ending.

What happens if I experience a trauma response or get emotional?

  • This is also normal. If you ever feel uncomfortable or need a moment, please do not hesitate to ask your massage therapist. Providing safe touch is a core value at Redefine and Reveal and and I am trama informed care trained to help you in this situation.
  • If you ever need to end the massage due to overwhelming emotions please feel free to do so. Know that your licensed massage therapist is there to support you and it is not unusual to have tears or have memories appear. Please be open and truthful in your communication- whether you want to stop the massage, if pressure needs to be changed, or if you want to avoid a specific area of treatment entirely.

Are masks required?

  • Redefine & Reveal follows the CDC guidelines as it relates to public health ensuring safety for our clients, thus at this time masks are not required.
  • If you are experiencing any signs of a fever, cold or flu-like symptoms or have been exposed to someone testing positive with COVID-19, please remain home and reschedule your appointment. There is no cancellation fee for ensuring safety for yourself and others.
  • Proper sanitation and cleaning is conducted before, during (if necessary), and after each session to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and any other possible transmission of illnesses.
